Stephen King On Using The Word Said.

QUESTIONS for the writers: How many of you follow dialogue mostly with the word ‘said?’ instead of say, croaked, yelled, cried, mimicked, mumbled, snarled….etc.

I am so guilty of using other words, but here is a tip from Stephen King: in his book ‘On Writing’, he expresses his belief that said is the best identifier to use. Said is the verb most writers use because reader familiarity with said prevents it from drawing attention to itself.
